Lucid is recalling 27,185 Air sedans in the United States after identifying a defect in the vehicle’s exterior lighting electrical system that could increase the risk of fire.
The recall covers Lucid Air sedans from model years 2022 through 2026. According to recall information reported by Reuters and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue involves an exterior lighting circuit that can overheat.
Importantly, the recall is not related to the Air’s high-voltage battery pack or electric propulsion system.
Software Issue Can Allow Excessive Current
The Lucid Air uses software-controlled electronic fuses, known as eFuses, to regulate current flowing through its low-voltage exterior lighting circuits.
Lucid determined that the software controlling those circuits could allow excessive current under certain conditions. Rather than shutting down the affected circuit as intended, it could remain energized at an amperage level high enough to overheat wiring or other electrical components.
That overheating can result in smoke or potentially a fire. The issue can also cause exterior lighting, including headlights or taillights, to malfunction, creating an additional safety concern.
Lucid has identified three fires and four smoke incidents believed to be associated with the defect, along with 33 warranty claims related to the issue.
Most Affected Air Sedans Already Updated
Lucid is addressing the defect through an over-the-air software update rather than requiring owners to bring their vehicles in for a hardware repair.
Software version 2.10.0 changes the eFuse logic, including reducing allowable amperage and preventing a faulted circuit from being re-energized during the same key cycle. Vehicles running version 2.10.0 or later contain the recall remedy.
At the time of the recall filing, 20,719 of the 27,185 affected vehicles had already received the updated software. That leaves 6,466 vehicles, or roughly 24% of the recalled population, still requiring the update.
Owners whose vehicles have not yet received the update are being advised to park outside and away from structures or other vehicles until the software remedy is installed. Lucid is expected to begin mailing owner notification letters around October 16, 2026.
Owners can also check their VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup system to determine whether their vehicle has an outstanding recall.
